Abu Dhabi City Golf was originally a sand course, established in 1976, which has been transformed from barren desert to grass fairways 22 years later.
It is an oasis of colours, with scenic lakes, fountains and indigenous wild birds inhabiting this beautifully manicured course. Set within the circumference of sand horseracing tracks, the golf course is an intriguing course of nine holes that offers nightly lighting and different tee positions, creating an 18-hole, par 70, 6,395-yard little gem.
Water comes into play on four of the nine holes, with challenging left and right dog-legs and an enormous par five, 630-yard eighth hole, where skilfully designed water hazards cross the fairway and immediately come into play. Surprisingly for a nine-hole course, there are only two par threes.
