Greenore Golf Club is situated in the picturesque Cooley Peninsula in North Co. Louth, Ireland, on the shores of Carlingford Lough with magnificent views of Slieve Foy Mountain and the Mourne Mountains. Greenore Golf Club was founded in 1896 and is steeped in interesting golfing history.
In 1899 the course was extended from nine to eighteen holes and a pavilion type clubhouse was constructed the following year. Many revered golfers, including the great triumvirate of Vardon, Braid and Taylor, have played here.
The course consists of a mixture of “links-like” and parkland holes framed by tall pine trees. Many improvements have been made over the years including the construction of three new holes which are referred to by the members as the “country holes.
The first hole is a very demanding opening hole where distance and accuracy are important. A two-tier green is well guarded by bunkers to the left and right. Be aware of winds coming from the Lough on the right.

The signature hole on the card is the 139-yard, par three 14th named “Pigs back”- Probably the most difficult green to hit. Club selection is essential and only perfect distance control will do. Miss the green and you are left with a very difficult chip to the narrow green.
