Ames Golf & Country Club was formed in 1911. The original Club, a nine-hole golf course with a clubhouse and swimming pool, was located south of Ames, Iowa. In 1971 land was purchased and a new golf course built at the present location, north of Ames.
The grand opening of the golf club at the present location was held on Labor Day 1974. The Club consists of 164 acres, including a well-manicured golf course, a heated pool, a wading pool, and two tennis courts. The pool facilities are available Memorial Day through Labor Day
The renowned Donald Sechrest of Tulsa, Oklahoma, designed the 18-hole, 114-acre course in 1971. The golf course boasts lush fairways, tees and well-manicured greens irrigated and surrounded by a few small, well-positioned lakes.
The most difficult hole in certainly the Par 4 hole 6th. From the tee, try and position your ball on the right side of the fairway as the rough comes in considerably on the left side. Two traps on the front left and front right guard the green. The best “miss” on the approach is short or right, as there is trouble long and left.
Also included are an ample Practice and Teaching facility and a large Practice Green.
The Clubhouse consists of a clubroom, banquet room, formal dining room, full bar, locker rooms, and golf shop. The Clubroom offers casual dining, while the Greenview Dining Room offers facilities with a wide array of menu options to include full service or ala-carte.
