A huge, granite stone by the first tee tells you that Ashton on Mersey Golf Club was founded in 1897 in the days when the horse that pulled the mower was indispensible. Since then the club has grown, surviving two World Wars and a fire that burned down the old wooden clubhouse in August 1990.
At over 6,000 yards, Ashton-on-Mersey Golf Club is a tough 9-hole parkland course of easy walking with some alternative tees. Stromford Brook crosses four of the holes and the Mersey River to the right of the 5th and 6th provides a good test for golfers of all abilities.
