Set against the backdrop of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, Assoufid Golf Club’s 18-hole, par-72 golf course winds its way through a unique, naturally undulating desert landscape. Located 10 km from Marrakech’s Medina – a UNESCO World Heritage site, Assoufid Golf Club provides golfers with an exceptional golfing experience that is excitingly diverse and challenging.
Assoufid Golf Club recognizes the importance of protecting and enhancing its natural environment, in which only 45% of the golf course was planted to minimize water consumption. During construction, a significant number of trees found growing on site were retained, and many more have since been planted, including palm trees, cacti and olive trees.
The par four 5th is one of the toughest holes on the card. Played from an elevated tee, its fairway is flanked on either side by desert as it rises directly towards the Atlas Mountains. Tee shots played to the left will afford golfers a better view of the flag for an approach whilst a drive up the right side will leave more of a blind shot into the pin.
The tee for the par three 17th is located at the highest point on the course – offering panoramic views of all the holes on the back nine – and it’s the starting point for the signature hole at Assoufid. Tee shots must carry a natural dry stream (called a shaaba) that runs through the course before reaching a wide but shallow green protected by bunkers to the front and rear.
Assoufid Golf Club was named “Africa’s Best New Golf Course 2014”, World Golf Awards, 2014
Great golf in Marrakech
Of all the courses in Marrakech, Assoufid is my favourite. The land is perfect for golf, with gentle slopes of lush green surrounded by the barren desert. It looks stunning. And with the iconic Atlas Mountains in the background, you can’t help but feel inspired
