Club de Golf La Cañada is located on the Costa del Sol, in the Sotogrande resort, a paradise for lovers of a calmed life, high quality and sports tourism. The municipality of San Roque concentrates a high number of excellent golf courses, like the Real Club of Sotogrande and highlighting Valderrama, home of the Ryder Cup in 1997.
For twenty years Club de Golf La Cañada was a fine 9-hole set up, until the club appointed Dave Thomas in 2002 to add an additional nine holes, extending the original Robert Trent Jones Senior layout to a full 18-hole course.
The Thomas holes now form the front nine, laid out near the main road, whilst the RTJ back nine occupy the more undulating landscape, characterized by fine bunkering and interesting greens. The better holes on the card are undoubtedly the 1st hole ( par-4),who can be challenging for players who cannot hit very far. There is a water hazard 170 meters from the green and out of bounds to the left. Many golfers prefer the second set of holes. The par five 10th and (stroke index 1) hole 12 but the best is saved until last where a heroic tee shot is called for at the 18th, across an intimidating ravine, with fine views of the Guadiaro river and Mediterranean Sea in the background.
The Andalucian style clubhouse houses a beautiful photographic collection of La Cañada golf course’s past and present in addition to the Club’s Founder Members. La Cañada golf course is a exciting challenge for players of all levels.
