El Rio Country Club sprawls across 215 acres of scenic terrain covered with lakes and rivers. El Rio is an upscale development that is home to the first Jack Nicklaus Signature championship golf course in Guadalajara. Routed through hills, valleys, and canyons, the course has plenty of changes in elevation in addition to the numerous water hazards that come into play throughout.
The championship tees stretch the layout to over 7,500 yards – three of the five par fives are definite three shot holes, including the 656-yard 18th – but the regular tees are more than a thousand yards shorter, allowing most golfers a decent chance of playing to their handicap.
El Rio Country Club opened to members in July 2008, and it can be found 30 minutes from the centre of Guadalajara in a spectacular mountain setting.
The Jack Nicklaus Signature Course measures 7,544 yards from the Professional Tees. The course has two rivers and various streams running through it and a wide variety of trees providing a very attractive environment to play golf. The signature hole is the 18th, a 656-yard par five with two fairways and a lake in front of the green providing a high level of difficulty and many options for the golfer. Only the longest hitters will have the option of going for the green in two shots.
In addition to the golf course, El Rio offers a 12-acre practice range with five target greens and a putting green with an approach area.
Note that El rio Country Club is reserved for members and their guests.
