Glendower Golf Club

Formed back in 1935, the Glendower Golf Club engaged the services of Harry Colt’s associate, Charles Hugh Alison, to lay out an 18-hole parkland course in two loops of nine on some old Glendower farmland.

During the 80’s the course saw a major face change. All 18 greens were reshaped and rebuilt, new tee positions were added, existing water hazards were cleared and extended and new water features added at a number of holes. The changes have made the club one of the most challenging and beautiful courses in South Africa and at present we are rated the best course in Gauteng and have been rated in the top 10 by Compleat Golfer.

Glendower Golf Club

The course boasts lovely kikuyu fairways with 64 bunkers, 27 on the front nine and 37 on the back nine and water hazards on 11 of the 18 holes. Glendower truly offers a challenge and accuracy is the key. The golf course is a par 72.

The feature hole on the course is the 468-yard, par four, 10th which requires a long approach over a wide lake to a green that has two bunkers on either side of the putting surface – front pin positions rarely yield a par score on this hole, never mind a birdie.

Glendower Golf Club offers brilliant practice facilities including top rated PGA teaching professionals Fanie Viljoen and Tyrone Twilley. The practice area is located behind the clubhouse, and the practice putting green is in front. Chipping Greens and bunkers can be found beside the 10th tee.

Glendower Golf Club is in the top golf courses in South Africa (Ranked 8th)
