Inaugurated in 1900, the Golf Bordelais is one of the five oldest golf courses in France.

The land on which the course is located however, was not predestined to become what it is now, an 18 hole golf course. So after having been a bivouac of the Napoleonic armies, a shooting range in 1870, and the favourite hunting ground of Lord Kater, by the initiative of golf enthusiasts, the 20 acres of Pezou’s Land have been transformed into a 9 hole golf course.

In the first year the Golf Bordelais organizes meetings with the Arcachon, Dieppe, Bordeaux and Biarritz Golf Clubs on a lot more barren, treeless, which fairways were mowed by a flock of sheep.

In 1927, the property company, under pressure from the players, will decide to acquire the entire moor including the today’s Club House.

This acquisition will later allow the famous golf course architect Harry Colt to design and build a 18-hole course which is different from the today’s course.
