Golf Club de Lyon ( Les Sangliers )

Established in 1991, this Par 72 is the newest of the two 18-hole courses, but it is the undisputed jewel, because of its length (6727 metres from back tees) and the constant precision it demands.

Also extremely varied, with regard to its numerous water hazards, its hidden traps, and the multiple shots it requires, this 18-hole sometimes gives the impression of being flat. But in the reality, the feet are rarely in this position.

The whole is a great technical and physical challenge. Moreover, it is not for nothing that it was positioned as fourth most beautiful French courses in the Peugeot Guide in 1997, before hosting the next Junior Championships in France.

And it’s not a surprise to learn that a player like the Spanish José Maria Olazabal, twice winner of the Masters in Augusta, was crowned there in 2001, during the French Open.

This course was designed by Hugues Lambert, also creator of Correncon in Vercors, Gap col Bayard, or Domaine de Val de Sorne golf near Lons le Saunier in the Jura Mountains. He has happily used the meanders of the Rhone River to build enclaves to carefully maintained nature preserved. Another daring: a stumble offers viewers a panoramic view over the departures or arrivals of 10 of the 18 holes.
