The Golf de Saint Donat,

Golf de Saint Donat is one of the first modern courses on the French Riviera, a region long marked bt British-style golf architecture. Robert Trent Jones Jr. moulded Saint Donat into a variety of shapes, making intelligent use of existing vegetation and topography and contouring the flatter areas without ever going over the top. The result is a very precise layout, where the meanders of a small river come into play on half a dozen holes. A good numbers of bunkers and clumps of trees form distinctly threatening hazards often placed close to some well-designed greens. Emphasis should be on technique and caution in the choice of club, not on length, altrought players of all levels can enjoy a round of golf here as long as they are not over-ambitious. After a rather flat front nine, the homeward stretch is hilly with some spectacular and deliberately tricky holes.
