The Golf d’Omaha Beach was created in 1986 by Guy Dupont and designed by Yves Bureau, who designed many golf courses in France like Golf de Vire or Katameya Heights in Egypt. It is located on the coast near Bayeux and only a few kilometres away from the D-Day Landing Beaches and the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-mer where Steven Spielberg filmed scenes of “Saving Private Ryan” among the 10,000 white crosses.
Golf d’Omaha Beach has 2 courses, each with 18 holes with different landscapes between land and sea.
You will be charmed by course « La Mer-Par 72 » overlooking the sea and Port en Bessin fishing village.
The surroundings on hole 6 green , is spectacular. Set up at the cliff’s edge by the architect Yves Bureau, it overlooks the village of Port en Bessin and it’s fishing boats and offers an interesting view on the Arromanches artificial harbour and the Longues sur Mer battery, both very present remains of the allied landings.
The sea can be seen from the green of hole N°1, a long par 5 facing the wind, from N°2 superb par 3 aligned on Vauban tower fortification, from n°6 of course but also from the start of N°7,long par4 which turns away from it, then from the green of N°9 whose starting point is just behind the water obstacle. The blue of La Mer and the green of Le Bocage are the major colours of this course which allows all levels golfers to live their passion.
You will also like the hilly and wooded course « Le Manoir -Par71 » with its many ponds ,still in the typical Normandy environment with its hedgerows, its decorative beds and fruit trees, showing a multitude of beautiful flowers in spring.
Le Manoir at Golf d’Omaha Beach is a real delight for the eyes with unobstructed views on the surrounding countryside.This course reveals itself as a real golf challenge where all shots have to be very carefully studied and this from drive to potting. you certainly will not forget the view from 2 and 3 holes, the technical aspect of 4 and 5 and the start of 6 and 9…Have your clubs ready!
Back-tees technique (Slope 146 blacks), this course becomes again soothing and quieter for the players beginning from the most advanced starting points. Greenery and lakes will give a promenade aspect for some , while the best indecisive will have a hard time with the impressive greens and the dangerous roughs. An adjustable course for any one.
