Hamakua Country Club was founded in 1926 and is the second oldest golf course on the Island of Hawaii. It was built by Scottish engineers who were employed at the local sugar plantation. This unique little gem is located in the rural community of Honoka’a on the Northeast coast of the island, 1200 feet above sea level. With its gentle trade winds and moderate climate the course offers stiff test of golf when you factor the small greens and lush fairways.
The nine hole layout has two sets of tees, white for the outward nine and blue for the inward nine. It measures 4800 yards and plays to a challenging par 66 for men and 74 for women. For those who would prefer a shorter course there is a par three layout with 18 sets of tees and holes ranging from 75 to 150 yards in length. Most prefer to walk but golf carts, rental sets and hand trolleys are available. Please call ahead to reserve. The clubhouse sits at the top of the golf course and offers a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. It is available for private and corporate events.
