The Jack Nicklaus designed Simola opened in 2005 – only the third Golden Bear signature course in South Africa – and it sits majestically on a wooded landscape overlooking the Knysna River, with the Outeniqua mountain range in the background. Simola Golf coure is an 18 hole Par 72.
The Simola Golf and Country Estate has been sculpted into the hills above the picturesque Garden Route town of Knysna and occupies 325 hectares of breath taking landscape that overlook the enchanted forests, town, lagoon and Indian Ocean that lay out before it. The courses location has proved ideal in that the ridges and peaks of the area have provided exceptional protection from the dominant coastal winds that may throw your game off on other courses.
Well bunkered, watered and filled with wildlife roaming in from the surrounding forests, the Simola Golf Estate is an eighteen-hole championship course signed off by the Golden Bear himself and is in fact the first Jack Nicklaus Signature course along the Garden Route.
Fairways are lush, textured affairs that undulate through the run of the course whilst greens are an absolute pleasure to play on. An eclectic mix of par 3’s and 5’s has discerned this course from others and provides a fresh and welcome challenge to all levels of golfing ability.
One of the best holes is played early in the round at the short par four 2nd. This dramatic hole is played from a tee perched high above the fairway and from this vantage point, all seven fairway and greenside bunkers can be viewed, allowing golfers the opportunity to plan the best two shot route to the target.
Make no mistake, Simola is a South African must-play and as visitors are welcomed whole-heartedly we encourage you to take time-out on your next Garden Route adventure to head into the hills of Knysna and enjoy all that they have to offer. As a premiere estate you can expect first class facilities and state of the art technology to be incorporated here.
Not far from Simola, you can also play the amazing Pezula Course (Only 30 min drive).
