TPC Kuala Lumpur

TPC Kuala Lumpur is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Play golf in Kuala Lumpur is really great. Nestled amidst the beautiful hilltop setting of lush greenery and gently undulating hills of Bukit Kiara in the prime residential suburb of Damansara, it offers those who step inside a sanctuary for the mind, body and soul. As you arrive, you will be greeted by the elegant architecture of the clubhouse with Californinan-Spanish influence flanked by picturesque and environmentally-friendly landscapes.

The TPC Kuala Lumpur is is one of Malaysia’s most popular golf clubs. With 36 holes from which to choose – configured as the East and West courses – TPC KL offers a unique experience, but if you only have time to play one course, pick the championship West.

West course at TPC Kuala Lumpur

TPC Kuala Lumpur  West Course is the longer and more challenging of two private golf courses at the club located near the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s sprawling city center. Designed by architect Robin Nelson and playing to nearly 7,000 yards from the tournament tees, the golf course is set among the Bukit Kiara hillsides and abandoned rock quarries. The west course is certainly the most beautiful in Malaysia

Professional tournaments staged at the TPC Kuala Lumpur include The Malaysian Open;  the first co-sanctioned event between the European and Asian Tours in 1999. The same event held again in 2006 was where Korea’s Charlie Wi won his first European Tour title, becoming only the second Korean to win on the European Tour after KJ Choi.

TPC Kuala Lumpur hosted another Malaysian Open in 2010, which resulted in a win for 18-year-old Korean Noh Seung-Yul, who edged out KJ Choi by a single shot in a dramatic finale on the 18th. In 2011, another youngster claimed the Malaysian Open title. Italy’s 17-year-old Matteo Manassero won the event by one shot. Since then TPC KL West Course has been the annual venue for stops from both the USPGA and USLPGA Tour’s including the Maybank Open and Sime Darby Classic.

More recently, the West Course at TPC Kuala Lumpur has undergone a total redesign. Nelson & Haworth originally designed the West Course, which opened for play in 1991, but Parslow and Associates extensively reconstructed the layout over a period of eighteen months. The revamped West Course reopened in October 2008. A third makeover is ongoing in 2018.

A golf course for the true shot-maker with imagination and unrelenting attention to detail, TPC Kuala Lumpur’s West Course is designed to give the player sensational views of the hole and the surrounding scenery, countless shot options into the greens, and pristine playing conditions.

The tougher 7,000-yard West Course which plays across the pleasantly undulating hills features a huge lake on hole 9. Water now comes into play on no fewer than thirteen holes. This Kuala Lumpur course continues to be perfect, as it offers excellent challenges to visiting professionals and amateur Kuala Lumpur golfers alike.

East course at TPC Kuala Lumpur

At 6741 meters from the tips, the TPC Kuala Lumpur’s East Course is parkland style, with beautiful vibrant-colored landscaping. This 18-hole championship ground was voted 4th best course in all Malaysia in 2010. The design takes full advantage of the beauty of the land and makes you feel in harmony with nature. It offers natural grasses and wetlands and provides natural habitats to numerous species of wildlife and birds.

Designed to reward the intelligent golfer, the length, layout and toughness of this course are perfectly balanced. The Kuala Lumpur golf course features impeccably maintained fairways and greens, challenging elevation changes and an environment that enhances the essence of the local terrain.

The East course also has a pleasantly undulating parkland character, with several nicely elevated tee-boxes, providing a good look at the demands ahead. The lightly tree-lined, contoured fairways provide good definition to each hole, some of them requiring accurate drives.

The opening holes of the back-nine, flanked by OB and condominiums, is where straight-hitting from the tee is at a premium, much more so than on the easier-going front-nine. Good bunkering, clinging rough around the greens and, as your round progresses, ever more frequent and severe water hazards, ensures that the TPC Kuala Lumpur East Course continually tests and probes your overall game.

The challenging back-nine loop contains a tough closing stretch, with the par-5 16th throwing down one of the sternest tests; played from an elevated tee, water awaits any stray shots to either left or right. At both the par-4 9th and 18th holes, which run in parallel back to the clubhouse, a small lake menacingly guards your approach shots to the respective greens.

Overall the East course provides a very pleasant golf outing on an excellent championship layout.
